Which dialect do you teach?

In our group courses, we teach a Mittelland dialect, which is well suited to the regions of Zurich, Aargau, Zug, Lucerne, and St. Gallen.
If you’re specifically interested in learning a different dialect, such as Bernese or Basel German, we recommend one-to-one courses, which we tailor to your individual preferences.

What levels of Swiss German courses do you offer?

We provide courses for all proficiency levels:

• Beginner: This course is for people who have little or no prior knowledge of Swiss German or even German. The course is taught in English, so you should have some English skills. You’ll learn your first words, basic sentences, and useful expressions for everyday life.

• Elementary: This course is ideal if you’ve had some initial exposure to Swiss German – for example through listening or social surroundings – and now want to learn more systematically. This course is also taught in English and is the logical continuation of the Beginner course.

• Understanding: This course is designed for learners with very good German skills, at least B2 and ideally C1 or native level. The goal is to understand the Swiss dialect confidently in everyday situations, conversations, shopping, and at work. You won’t just learn passively; you’ll also actively build your vocabulary and expression skills. Many students start their Swiss German journey with this course.

• Speaking: This course is for you if you already understand Swiss German quite well – for example because you’ve lived in Switzerland for a long time or have many Swiss friends – and now want to focus on actively speaking. The emphasis is entirely on speaking, pronunciation, sentence structure, and fluency, not on comprehension.

What do levels 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 mean – and which one is right for me?

All of our course types – Understanding, Speaking, Beginner, and Elementary – are divided into three modules:
1/3 = Introduction, 2/3 = Consolidation, 3/3 = Practice and reinforcement.

The modules build on each other, but you don’t necessarily have to start with 1/3.

What are the language requirements for enrolment?

For Beginner and Elementary levels, a minimum English proficiency of B1 is required, as part of the course is conducted in English.

What is the duration and frequency of the courses?

Courses are structured as follows:
Beginner and Elementary Levels: Each sublevel spans 6 weeks, with classes held 1 or 2 times per week, each lasting 2 hours.
Understanding and Speaking Levels: Each sublevel lasts 12 weeks, following the same frequency and duration per class.

Are the courses available online or in person?

We offer flexible learning options:
Online courses: Participate in live online evening classes from the comfort of your home.
In-person courses: Attend selected classes in Zurich.

In the group courses, how many students are there per class?

Our group classes are conducted in small groups, averaging only 4-5 students, ensuring personalised attention and an effective learning environment. In small groups, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to speak and engage in interactive, entertaining lessons. Our modern online platform and dynamic teaching methods make learning Swiss German both effective and enjoyable, while you discover the unique charm of Swiss dialects.

How does an online one-to-one Swiss German course work?

Our one-to-one online Swiss German courses are designed to be personal, flexible, and tailored entirely to your needs. The classes take place via Zoom or other user-friendly tools, so you can learn Swiss German anytime, anywhere.

If I want a one-to-one on-site course, what are the possibilities?

Our one-to-one on-site Swiss German courses offer a world of possibilities. Your teacher can meet you directly at your company or at your home, making the lessons as convenient and flexible as possible.
The lessons are entirely customised to your needs, whether you’re starting as a beginner, improving your pronunciation, or mastering Zueridutsch or other Swiss dialects.
You decide the pace, focus, and depth of your lessons. Whether it’s for conversational practice, grammar mastery, or cultural understanding, our highly trained teachers ensure your learning experience is both effective and enjoyable.
