Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Can I take a B1 group course with you and then receive a certificate from Sprachschule Schneider?

You’ll get a confirmation of attendance – but for naturalization, the authorities require an officially recognized language certificate. The good news? We’ll help you prepare for exactly that! Our courses are designed to get you ready for the certificate you need.

Which German certificate should I take?

There are several official German certificates you can use to prove your language skills for naturalization. Not sure which one’s right for you? No problem – at the start of your course, your teacher will help you choose the path that fits you best.

Is there a test that checks reading and writing at A2 level, and listening and speaking at B1?

Yes – most Swiss cantons require proof of language skills at A2 level for reading and writing, and B1 for listening and speaking.

There isn’t just one official “German naturalization test,” but you can take a language certificate that meets these requirements. fide, telc Deutsch B1, and the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 are generally recognized. The fide test is especially popular because it’s designed exactly for this combo: A2 written, B1 spoken.

Can I pass a B1 exam after taking a B1.1 course with you?

Short answer: Not quite yet.
B1.1 is the first step – a great start! But to take the exam, you’ll need to complete the full B1 level, including the next parts. Not sure where you stand? Just take our German placement test. It’ll show you exactly what’s missing – and how to reach your goal.

How can I prove my German skills for naturalization?

You have a few options.

One way is to complete an officially recognized language certificate at B1 level. Accepted certificates include:

  • Goethe-Zertifikat

  • telc certificate

  • ÖSD (Austrian Language Diploma)

  • fide

  • ECL exam in German as a foreign language

  • bzi language assessment

  • Swiss Digital Language Test (SDS)

  • TestDaF

Another option is to take the KDE (Cantonal German Test for Naturalization), which is offered by your local municipality.

In some cases, you may not need a language certificate or KDE at all – for example, if you’ve already completed an apprenticeship or university studies in German. You’ll find more information on the requirements for the Canton of Zurich. When in doubt, it’s best to contact your local authorities directly.
