Course information

German A1. Build up your German with helpful exercises and dedicated teachers. Learn words and sentences you can use right away at school, with friends or in your free time – and become more confident every time you speak.

In this minigroup with only 3–4 participants on average, you get to speak more often. Get motivated and discover your appetite for learning!

Information on the organization of this course

This course is guaranteed to take place, no matter how many participants are enrolled. This is possible at no extra cost thanks to a flexible linear adjustment of lesson length, based on the principle: the fewer participants, the more intensive the lesson; the more participants, the longer the lesson. If the lesson is held with reduced length, you will receive individually tailored supplementary practice opportunities.

The lesson length is proportionally determined by the number of participants. Here the following options apply:
6–8 participants: 120 minutes
4–5 participants: 90 minutes
2–3 participants: 60 minutes
1 participant: 40 minutes

Thanks to the supplementary exercises, the learning progress is approximately equivalent across all options.

Course Requirements

This course is intended for learners who have already completed a course at A1-a level or who have a language ability equivalent to around 30-35 hours of study. We determine your current level free of charge and without obligation through a written placement test.

Course content

In this German course A1 you will learn the following topics:

  • talk about school, hobbies and your free time
  • describe your room, your home or your neighbourhood
  • understand and retell short stories
  • write messages and short e-mails
  • go shopping and order in a restaurant
  • talk about health and how you feel

In this course you learn words and sentences you can use right away in everyday life.

Goals

This German course enables you to achieve the following aims and skills:

  • You learn to communicate in German using simple words in everyday situations.
  • You can understand simple instructions and ask simple questions.
  • You can write and understand simple information, notes and instructions.
  • You get to know everyday German vocabulary on a basis level and have the basic German grammatical structures at your disposal.
  • In addition you learn important cultural information on this German course about Switzerland and other German-speaking countries and their people.
